Position Data batch process to update incumbents

In this doodle, I will share my thoughts why Oracle has introduced a new batch process starting PeopleSoft 9.0 to update incumbents for Position data changes. Though PeopleSoft says mapping between position number and employee is one-to-one. Not all organizations are able to restrict their data to this rule. There are some organizations that assign multiple employees to a position number. I have come across one of my client who had 350+ employees assigned to a position number.

When any position data change is made to this position number then all incumbents has to be updated through Job Data CI which will take long time due to the complexity of the Job Component CI. To overcome this scenario Oracle has introduced a batch process (Application Engine - HR_UPD_INCMB) to have the incumbent's job data updated in batch mode rather than online.

When use makes changes to the position number that has multiple incumbents and save the component they are displayed with message that says as below:

"This position has 2 incumbents. Do you wish to use a batch process to update incumbents data?"

User has to click on Yes button to have this update done in batch mode. After this user can monitor the successful completion of this process through Process Monitor.
