Day 1: Acclimatization, Sight Seeing, Peru Food and Hike planning.

Plaza De Armas Complex
We reached Lima at 9:00 PM and had our connecting flight to Cusco next day morning 6:10 AM. We decided to go out for dinner rather than staying in Airport all night. We placed our backpacks in airport luggage room and took green taxi to Miraflores.  It was a 45 minutes ride from airport and we paid 45 Sols. We reached Miraflores at 11:30 PM and most of the Peru food restaurants are already closed. We walked finding only fast food restaurants and pizzeria's open. Looking at the menu of a Haiti restaurant which had Ceviche as one of the dish we wanted to taste in Lima so we decided to dine tonight here. Ceviche being Peru's traditional national food we ordered and tasted our first Peruvian dish.

After dinner we took ride back to Lima airport for 40 Sols and reached at 2:00 PM. After check in our luggage's we went to our connecting flight gate and slept for 2 hours. We landed in Cusco at 7:30 AM and we had long wait time to collect our check in luggage's. We took taxi ride to Ecopackers hostel by paying 25 Sols. Until our 7th day of the trip we didn't realize that we were ripped off by the taxi guy on the very first day taxi ride from airport. Actual pay should have been between 10-15 Sols. Recommend to bargain for 10-15 Sols for any taxi ride from Cusco airport to places near Plaza De Armas.
Jugo's shop in San Pedro

Ecopackers receptionist said we can check in only at 1:00 PM. We placed our bags in hostel luggage room and visited the travel desk. We booked our Salkantay 5 days hike and enquired of other historical places. We visited plaza de armas and walked to San Pedro mercado. We had jugo's for 4 Sols and lunch Ecableche de Pollo and Sopa de Pollo in San Pedro Mercado. Soup and dish tasted salty and sour. They were delicious to taste.

Lunch in San Pedro Mercado
In this Mercado other interesting things we can find are fresh meat shops (Carniceria), different color big corns, big breads and handicrafts. After walking around the market we were tried and now want to take some rest so walked back to hostel.

Guinea Pig (Cuy)
We checked in at 1:00 PM and had nap till 5:00 PM. We had briefing with our hiking guide Primo Daniel Zea at 6:30 PM. We had to wake up 4:00 AM tomorrow morning to join the hike group. We had evening walk to Plaza De Armas. We saw Peru women and children standing in queue's to collect their Christmas delicacies and presents. There were lot of street people around Plaza De Armas and they never bothered or troubled tourists unlike other places I have been so far. We had Guinea Pig (Cuy) and Andean style chicken for dinner in Nuna Raymi. Cuy tasted like chicken for me with tender bones.

We headed back to hostel at 10:00 PM and arranged for back packs for our hiking. We went to bed at 11:00 PM having our alarms set at 3:45 AM. Due to adrenalin excitement I woke up at 3:30 AM before my alarm and got ready for the pick up. Primo and his team picked us at 4:40 AM from our hostel. After picking 16 others of our hiking team we started from Plaza San Francisco.
