Visit to Inca Land - Machu Pichu, Peru

Thilak and Me in Machu Pichu
In this doodle I will share our exciting days in ancient Incan capital Cusco and the lost city Machu Picchu in Peru. Like most travelers we decided Peru as this is a place for hikers, history favors and for spectacular sceneries.

Like any of our previous travels we didn't plan much. As first initiative for this trip we booked our tickets to Cusco. Due to last moment (5 weeks before travel date) planning we had our tickets for high price. Recommendation is to book tickets at least 6 months in advance to have best travel rates.

After tickets we worked on our Peru visa. Quick way of getting Peru visa is to identify the consulate you need to apply and call them to check on the documents you have to provide to get the visa. Plan for a half a day visit to Peru consulate in your city with the needed documents. Normally processing is been completed within 2-3 hours. Some country passport holders don't need preapproved visa for visiting Peru as tourists.

After visa we focused on our hiking preparation. If you plan to hike in Peru you may also have to do additional plan  and budget for buying needed hike and camp gears.

Now we have completed our most needed plans to backpack our self. We have planned our stay in Peru for 9 days excluding our travel days. I will share our 9 days of experience in different doodles grouped based on activities or places we visited.

Day 1              : Acclimatization, Sight Seeing, Peru Food and Hike planning.
Day 2 - Day 6 : Salkantay Hike, Hot Spring bath, Zip Line (Being Superman), Machu Pichu.
Day 7              : Historical sight seeing Sacsayhuaman and Qorikancha.
Day 8              : Lake Titicaca and Floating Islands.
Day 9              : Pisac Monument and Market, Souvenirs, Street Food and 2014 New Year Eve.

Apart from hiking and travel nights we stayed in Ecopackers hostel in Cusco. This was my first experience in travel hostels. I would highly recommend this hostel for travelers in Cusco. My recommendation is based on cleanliness, good sleeping mats, regular maintenance in restrooms, hospitality and price. They also have luggage check-in rooms where you can leave your extra luggage's during your hiking days.
